Designing the MoMA Teen Program
Background: With a new building set to open in 2019, MoMA set out to explore further opportunities to action the core values of the institution; experimental, thoughtful, inclusive and welcoming. One area of interest was the evolution of an offering for teens and MoMA looked to carry out research to decipher what this offering could look like.
Objectives: Explore perceptions of museums amongst urban, diverse teens in New York, understanding any barriers that exist to visiting. Identify new, innovative opportunities for MoMA to connect to teens through an offering that feels inclusive, practical and engaging.
Outcome: A colorful portrayal of the relationship between teens and museums in New York, alongside a distinct, actionable recommendation for a teen offering at MoMA. This recommendation further illustrated how it aligned with MoMA’s values and the barriers that it broke down for New York teens.
